Crisis Intervention
Crisis intervention is a form of emergency psychological care aimed at assisting those in a crisis situation, restoring equilibrium to their biopsychosocial functioning and minimizing the potential for long-term psychological trauma. Such support offers immediate, short-term help to individuals who experience an event that produces behavioral, emotional, physical, and/or psychological distress.
Crisis entails any situation in which the individual perceives a sudden loss of ability to use effective problem-solving and coping skills. Such situations may include criminal victimization, family disturbance, loss of a loved one, medical illness, mental illness, natural disasters, sexual assault, and suicidal ideation.
